AMU Connect ("we", "our", or "us") operates the AMU Connect Android application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose personal data when you use our app and the choices you have regarding that data.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with applicable Google Play Developer Program Policies and Google Play Data Safety requirements.
1. Information Collection and Use
A. Personal Data Provided by You
When you register, create an account, or interact with the app, we may ask you to provide information that can be used to identify or contact you ("Personal Data"). This may include:
- Account Credentials: Email address and password.
- Profile Information: Full name, gender, date of birth, course/department, academic year, and bio.
- User-Generated Content: Questions, answers, discussion posts, community comments, and event submissions.
- Profile Photo: Images uploaded by you for your user profile or event listings.
B. Automatically Collected Data & Device Information
When you access the app using a mobile device, we may collect or store certain information, including:
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) Token: Used exclusively to deliver push notifications such as announcements, news, results, notices, and Q&A updates.
- Network State: Used to check internet connectivity and support API communication.
- Local Storage & Caches: Session identifiers such as
USER_ID, read-notice history, and in-app notification logs may be stored locally on your device using Android local storage.
2. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
A. Backend & Database (PocketBase)
Our primary backend and database are hosted securely using PocketBase at amuconnects.com. Account credentials, profile data, community questions, answers, and events are stored in our backend.
B. Official AMU Content Integration
The app fetches publicly available academic notices, news, and upcoming events from official Aligarh Muslim University sources, including amu.ac.in and amucontrollerexams.com. No personal user data is intentionally shared with these external academic portals.
C. Firebase Services (Google LLC)
- Firebase Authentication: Used for secure user sign-up, login, and session management where applicable.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): Used to deliver push notifications.
D. Google AdMob (Google LLC)
We may display banner and interstitial advertisements through Google AdMob to support the maintenance and free availability of the app. AdMob may process device identifiers and usage-related information for advertising and measurement, subject to Google's applicable privacy policies and user controls.
E. Location Autocompletion (Geoapify API)
When creating an event, location search suggestions may be powered by the Geoapify API. Search queries are used to provide location suggestions and are not intended to be stored permanently by AMU Connect.
3. Use of Data
AMU Connect uses collected data for purposes including:
- Providing, maintaining, and securing your account.
- Facilitating community engagement, including questions, answers, and events.
- Fetching and displaying official AMU news, notices, examination results, admissions, and examination updates.
- Sending push notifications about important university updates and community activity.
- Displaying relevant advertisements through Google AdMob.
- Monitoring app performance, troubleshooting issues, and improving user experience.
4. Data Security
The security of your data is important to us. We use security measures including encrypted network communications (HTTPS/TLS) and token-based backend authentication. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure.
5. Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.
6. Account and Data Deletion
Users can request deletion of their AMU Connect account and associated data through the Settings → Delete Account option in the app.
